and Green Smoothies in Ecological Civilization International
The Bad News: Slavery turned the African spirit of love for the land into shame and pain
The Good News: The love can be restored by Fat Soul Farmers and Ecological Entrepreneurs
We who seek to become Fat Souls love beauty; we love the earth. We love sustainable communities. We love metaphor, too. We see ourselves as diverse facets of a bejeweled universe, reflecting one another with humility, respect, and hospitality. We see ourselves as part of the earth, part of each other, part of the stars... . We stand with the earth itself and consider it part of our own soul; we vow to protect it as we do the people we love.
-- Fat Soul Manifesto, Patricia Adams Farmer and Jay McDaniel
The mission of Ecological Civilization International (ECI) is to advocate the changes in human thought and action that are necessary for humans to live in a just and sustainable manner. We believe the time has come to encourage and cultivate ecological worldviews which emphasize the deep interconnectedness of the whole of life and invite us, amid our respective efforts to help heal the world, to recognize the interconnectedness of our efforts to reform our destructive systems. These worldviews will be based on an awareness of that we a part of a larger web of life.
